my product research
These product lists are based on my knowledge of harmful and potentially harmful chemicals in products. I used "EWG Healthy Living" and "Clearya" apps (free) to search for them. Scroll down to read more.

Products are listed in order or least to most plastic. Less plastic = less chemicals in our environment! I tried to avoid adding products with pump containers since pumps can't be recycled. Visit my sustainability page for more tips.
The child category has Amazon links for easier registries (but I don't support Amazon ethically). Support small businesses!

What I did to come up with these lists and why:

-
Clearya is an app that checks if any ingredients in a product are concerning based on different chemical hazard lists published by governments. I searched through products that could be found on Target, Walmart, iHerb, or Amazon since these are the sites that the Clearya app and browser extension work on.
-
For the baby product category, I went on EWG to search their baby product categories. From those, I came up with a list of things I think would be essential to have (I don't have kids so this is from what I've seen). I sorted products from "best to worst" so I could see the "EWG-verified" products first. I then put the names of the EWG-verified products into the Clearya app. I did my search in March 2024 so you should double check to see if there are any new alerts by the time you're buying something. I listed products here that had "no alerts" for the most part.
-
You'll see many products listed here are fragrance-free because ingredient labels usually put "fragrance" as an ingredient without saying what chemicals they used to make that fragrance.
-
For the kid and toddler category, I did something similar to the baby category but with less emphasis on products being EWG-verified. I gave more emphasis to not having Clearya alerts since EWG did not have a toddler-specific category.
-
For the adult category, my main priority was being plastic-free and not having Clearya alerts. I still checked EWG to view the EWG-verified products first, but some of the products in this category may be products I found using the Clearya "discover" feature.
-
When the EWG products were limited, I took advantage of a feature of Clearya that shows you alert previews when you search a specific product on Walmart or iHerb. I didn't see this on Amazon.

Although I did not use the Yuka app to do my initial research, when possible, I will scan products and update any alerts as needed. I am only doing free versions of apps at this time, so I did not search on Yuka unless I found a barcode for the product.
