Internship information:

For three months, I interned under the Orange County Health Care Agency's Tobacco Use Prevention Program. Throughout this time, my primary projects and tasks involved community engagement. I assisted staff in multiple departments on their prospective projects by reviewing websites, proof reading materials in Spanish, and assisting with the logistics of meetings/events. I shadowed different staff in their roles and meetings to learn about what they did to help prevent tobacco use. Some of the shadowing I did included subcontractor meetings, a youth focus group, and the promotion of treatment services. I was able to help with translating presentations, blog posts, and served as a Spanish speaker at outreach events. I provided tobacco education and prevention information to community members in Spanish. As one of the few Spanish speakers in the agency, my Spanish was a vital role for my internship and population being served. The agency is located in Santa Ana, which is known for its many Spanish speakers and Latinx population.
