UP206A Environmental Assessment
Although this class did not meet any MPH competencies, I gained valuable perspectives from the urban planning department.
The final group report is highlighted below with only the work I produced shown.
A health risk and benefit approach was taken to compare different playground surface types. The report was titled Health Impacts of Playground Space on Children: Considerations For the Future of School Playground Interventions and Design and consisted of sections on cool pavements, asphalt, shade structures, and green spaces. My section was focused on health implications of cool pavements.
EHS 219 Environmental Health Disparities
The class met the following EHS specific competencies:

Discuss the unequal geographic, demographic, socioeconomic distributions of environmental risks in terms of environmental justice

Interpret the hypothesis, study design, methods, and results presented in a peer review article in Environmental Health Sciences and related fields.

Formulate a testable hypothesis about a current critical issue in environmental health sciences and related fields

​Propose appropriate data collection strategies and data analysis methods to test hypotheses in Environmental Health Sciences and related fields.
The goal of this literature review was to answer the following research questions:
1. Which ambient air pollutants and how much can be reduced through different types of green spaces and which cannot?
2. Where should green spaces be placed in urban spaces to maximize benefits to the people living there?
EHS 207 Introduction to Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
The class met the following Association of Schools & Programs of Public Health (ASPH) competencies: 15.1, 15.2, and those listed under the assignments linked. ​​
The goal of this bibliography was to review literature that used GIS to explore an epidemiological issue (ASPH Competencies met: #A1, A2, A3, and C6).
A 5-7 minute presentation was created and presented to the class to summarize the bibliography (ASPH Competencies E1 and E2).

EHS 200D Policy Analysis
The class met the following ASPH competencies: F4-16, I1, I1.2, I1.3, I1.4, I4.1, I4.2, I5.1, I5.2, 16.1, 16.2, I6.3, I6.4, I7.1, I7.2, I8.1, I8.2, I10.1, I10.2, I11.1, I12.1, and I12.2​​
The goal of this literature review/policy brief was to highlight the disproportionate climate impacts that low-income and communities of color might face with building decarbonization and provide general policy recommendations to address these problems. Quantitative analysis was conducted using GIS.
