About Me
My name is Lizette Romano and a fun fact about me is that when I was younger, I would try saving bees on sidewalks (I still try).
One of my main goals is to help create a healthy environment where people don’t have to worry about toxic chemicals and can instead enjoy the nature that surrounds them. I do this by being involved in the regulation process of toxic chemicals at work! As a side project, I started searching for products I could recommend to my family and friends. Another goal I have is to sustainably improve the built and natural environment for future generations.
A little background about me: I got my Master of Public Health (MPH) from UCLA. My program concentration was environmental health sciences (the study of how the environment impacts health). I got my bachelor's degree in Community Health Education in 2019. My focus during my time as an undergraduate was disease prevention, communicable disease, and non-communicable diseases. I became interested in disease as I saw how lower-income communities were most affected throughout their lives.
After graduating with my bachelor's, I worked as a Parent Educator at SHIELDS for Families, a non-profit dedicated to serving families in south-central LA. I was able to bring my research, health, and childhood development experience to the position to strengthen family goals. I then worked as an eligibility worker for Medi-Cal where I assisted families with obtaining access to state health insurance. Throughout my previous roles, I was able to bring my passion for environmental health and a justice driven perspective. I took those experiences to my master's program and went on to do work around climate justice in East LA and air quality. I hope you'll enjoy looking through some of what I've done through the years!
